Students who choose to participate in any of the activities and programs offered by Bluegrass United are automatically considered "members" of the community. These students are supported by a unique organizational structure that seeks to unite the home schooling community for the purpose of strengthening its impact, increasing its desirability and furthering its influence.

Bluegrass United is an “umbrella” organization for many high school programs. The umbrella organization:

  • Advocates for home education through the high school years

  • Is involved in the creation and implementation of high school programming

  • Oversees Bluegrass United programs

  • Maintains the Bluegrass United web site and email lists. The BU Leadership oversees these functions.

Currently, 14 programs, or "spokes," exist under the Bluegrass United “umbrella.” Each spoke is independently operated with its own leadership and organizational structure. Bluegrass United retains some limited oversight responsibilities for each program.
